OUR MISSION: The mission of the Kalamazoo Public Schools is to nurture the dreams of all students and empower all students to contribute to a better world. -- SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership, support and evaluation of curricular programs and the system of instruction that foster high levels of academic achievement and college readiness for all students. Additionally, this position coordinates and monitors all district professional development. -- PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1)------ Leads the development and implementation of PreK-12 curricula aligned to State of Michigan grade level content standards and expectations. Ensures the alignment of written, taught, and tested curricula 2)------ Develops and implements a curriculum management system that increases student achievement for all students Promotes articulation of curriculum from grade to grade and among schools and teachers 3)------ Designs, organizes, and directs a system for materials adoption in the various subject areas and assists the curriculum committees in formulating recommendations 4)------ Supervises all PreK-12 curricular development and implementation including summer school, academically talented, and credit retrieval 5)-- Supervises and evaluates the performance of all curriculum coordinators, lead teachers and coaches, and the Professional Development Secretary 6)-- Develops and maintains, in collaboration with TLS, Student Services, and KEA, an on-going, three-year plan for PreK-12 (including the SCECHs process and KALPA) 7)-- Collaborates, summarizes, and evaluates feedback and reports regarding grant-funded programs) 8)-- Provides support for building administrators by providing them with research on instructional best practices and research-based programming, resources for reform,, school-to-school cooperation, higher education assistance and community support that help them reach their goal of college readiness for all students-- 9)-- Works closely with the central office, elementary and secondary directors, building administrators and staffs to develop solutions to problems as they arise 10)Collaborates and approves, with district administrators, the implementation of professional development 11)Maintains a district calendar of all professional development 12)Manages budgets related to department, curriculum writing, and special projects, including curriculum adoption 13)Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning Services -- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1)------ Master's degree with courses in educational administration, evaluation, testing, planning or instruction 2)------ Five years of successful performance as a public school education administrator 3)------ Demonstrated experience in leadership, which involved some area of reform 4)------ Evidence of management skills, which include success in critical thinking, problem solving, excellence in communication (particularly with staff, students, and parents) and demonstrated leadership experience 5)------ Evidence of successful experience in planning and directing programming including budget development 6)------ Evidence of professional development as required by the State of Michigan as appropriate 7)------ Technology skills at a level capable of creating spread sheets, data reports, and other relevant information -- -------- DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 1)------ Knowledge of effective models of school reform 2)------ Knowledge of assessment and evaluation 3)------ Knowledge of current research on teaching and learning 4)------ Experience in a diverse, urban school setting -- -- ---- -- -- Interested applicants should apply online and attach their application to this posting. ---- Internal candidates should submit a letter of interest and a current resume to the Human Resources Department attention: Sheila Dorsey-Smith --Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Kalamazoo Public Schools Department of Human Resources 1220 Howard Street Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008 (269) 337-0178-------- FAX (269) 337-0185 -- Initial screening will take place Wednesday, July 17, 2019 -- Position will be posted until filled ---- Visit our web site at http://www.kalamazoopublicschools.com -- Kalamazoo Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
