We work at the forefront of today---s global health issues, helping clients understand the specific needs of diverse populations and address complex health challenges with behavior and disease surveillance and monitoring, research and surveys, training and technical assistance, and informatics and systems.Job Description:As a Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Specialist, you will be responsible for responding to inquiries from the public (patients, health care providers and others) that the National Institutes of Health's (NIH), Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center (GARD) receives (via phone, e-mail, Web, U.S. mail, fax, TTY) about genetic and/or rare conditions. Responses to public inquiries explain very technical and medical concepts in plain language. You will also be responsible for identifying GARD resources and contributing to continuous updating and changing of the procedures to improve process efficiencies.--Deep knowledge of genetic and rare diseases and ability to review journals and text references to remain current in clinical genetics, rare diseases, research and other supportive resources required. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. Proficient with verbal and written skills in English required and in Spanish preferred. We are seeking candidates with availability during GARD contact center hours of 12 pm --- 6 pm EST.This position can be full or part time and Rockville or remote based.Key Responsibilities: Respond to inquiries (phone, Web, e-mail, U.S. mail, fax) about rare and genetic conditions in English and Spanish.-- Develop responses that explain very technical and medical concepts into plain language. Develop content about genetic and rare diseases for the GARD Web site in plain language. Identify information center resources. Contribute to continuous updating and improvements in procedures and standard language.Basic Qualifications:-- Master---s Degree in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling 1--year of experience with clinical genetics Availability between 12 pm EST --- 6 pm ESTPreferred Skills/Experience: Board Eligible/Board Certification in Genetic Counseling preferred but not required. Experience in Web site design and writing content for the Web.
