Division - Duff-Norton Company Manufacturing Engineer Manager Department: Operations Location: Charlotte, NC Role Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer Manager provides support and leadership for Manufacturing Engineering with tooling, programs, routings, machine specifications and maintenance. Leads implementation of Lean Manufacturing systems and Continuous Improvement activities, including the Operational Excellence Program. Schedules and drives lean activities to improve safety, quality, and material flow. Responsible for equipment justification, selection, implementation, factory layout and maintenance. Key Accountabilities:* Leads and implements continuous improvements that support safety, quality, and cost.* Oversees the generation of manufacturing work instructions and process documents to be used in the fabrication, assembly, or rework of product to be delivered to the customer and rework instructions created by the shop supervisors.* Generates and oversees necessary machine programming to machine parts as cost-effectively as possible; reviews existing programming for same.* Directs in-house designs of production tools, jigs, and fixtures to ensure efficient production methods.* Analyzes work force utilization, space requirements, equipment layout, and workflow.* Leads component part insourcing activities.* Responsible for leading kaizen events such as single piece flow, 6S, TPM, etc.* Coordinates lean activities and drives lean culture throughout the facility. Competencies:* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. A.) from four-year college or university; with a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Position Requirements: CAM programming experience Machine controls experience with Okuma CNC lathes and vertical Machining Centers, Haas, Fanuc, Yasnac & Dynapath. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
