Special Assets Officer Wichita, KS Full Time As Equity Bank (Bank) continues to grow and expand within new and existing markets, we are seeking a highly effective, experienced Special Assets Officer. He or She must be able to keep pace with the demands of a rapidly expanding, diversified, multi-billion dollar loan portfolio consisting of several metro and numerous rural community markets across Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Reporting to the Special Assets Manager the Special Assets Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of classified credits and Other Real Estate Owned (OREO) of Equity Bank (Bank) and its affiliates. Responsibilities include: CREDIT QUALITY Works with the Lenders and Market Presidents on developing and implementing action plans and strategies on rated credits (Watch, Special Mention & Substandard) needing additional attention. Co-ordinates with the Lenders site inspections and client and attorney meetings. Works with the Lenders and Market Presidents on maintaining past due loans and overdrafts within acceptable limits. Co-ordinates with the Lenders the timely completion of the Problem Loan Reports (PLRs). Focuses on reducing the Banks non-performing assets (NPAs) through either upgrades and return to accrual status or through the development and execution of exit strategies. Engages Bank Counsel for litigation including foreclosure and bankruptcy matters. Negotiate plans or settlements that are beneficial to the Bank. Is cognizant of economic and industry trends in order to maximize opportunities and minimize risk. CREDIT ADMINISTRATION Ensures that the credits have been assigned the proper risk rating by the Loan Officer and or loan committee(s). Ensures that each asset is accurately held on the books and communicates with Accounting when any adjustments to value need to be made. Provides Senior Management with monthly / quarterly reports including: Loan Delinquency; Non-Accrual; Charge Off; Classified Loan Report; OREO Report; Litigation Report. Track insurance, taxes, legal and other collection expenses. Track covenant compliance, tickler system financial and loan documentation. Maintain loan file documentation. Responsible for ordering appraisals, brokers price opinions, internal evaluations and environmental reports. OTHER REAL ESTATE OWNED (OREO) Co-ordinates site visits on real property during the foreclosure process and once the property has transferred to OREO. Secures property once Bank takes title. Determines what level of clean up / repairs / maintenance is required. Ensures that the real estate is insured under the Banks policy. Ensures that real estate taxes are paid promptly. Ensures that Appraisal and Environmental due diligence is completed prior to the Bank taking title to the property. Recommends to the Special Asset Manager and CCO sheriff sale bid amounts. Completes OREO transfer forms and works with the Accounting Department to ensure that OREO transfers are completed in accordance to GAAP. Co-ordinates the selection of a realtor. Determines a marketing plan and strategy. The Special Assets Officer is the Banks main contact with the realtor. Makes recommendations to the Special Assets Manager & CCO on pricing, offers & counter offers. REGULATORY / AUDIT RELATIONS Assists CCO, CRO and Special Assets Manager with the examination and audit processes to ensure a smooth experience and positive results. Maintains open communication with regulators and auditors, advising them of major issues and seeking advice when necessary. Understand and follow the applicable laws and regulations for job responsibilities including but not limited to: Equity Bank Business Ethic and Conduct Policy; Bank Secrecy Act (BSA); Information Security; Suspicious Activity Report (SAR); Reg. O; Reg. B; Fair Lending. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience, required. Emphasis on Business, Law, Finance or Accounting. Experience: Five to seven years of banking experience, as either a Credit Analyst, Credit Manager, Credit Officer, Commercial Lender or Special Assets Officer. Position is located at the Banks main office in Wichita, Kansas. Some traveling is required. The Special Assets Officer will have a thorough understanding of: Legal process including: Bankruptcy, Foreclosure and Replevins. Finance / accounting requirements and reporting requirements of Non-Accrual Loans, Purchase Credit Impaired (PCI) Loans, Bankruptcies and Charge Offs. The management and sale of Other Real Estate Owned (OREO). Troubled Debt Restructures (TDRs). Loan Policy, underwriting guidelines and credit procedures. Commercial, Agriculture, Consumer and Residential Mortgage loan types and their uses in loan structuring. Commercial, Agriculture, Consumer and Residential Mortgage loan documentation including security documents (UCCs, Security Agreements, Real Estate Mortgages). Real estate appraisals and evaluations. Environmental reports. Governmental Guarantee Programs including: US Small Business Administration / USDA / Farm Service Agency. Specialized Lending Hotels, Construction & Development, Franchise Restaurants, Non-Owner Occupied CRE. Regulatory compliance. Excellent interpersonal skills. Comfortable negotiating repayment plans, forbearance agreements with borrowers. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. Able to work in a stressful environment with tight deadlines. Strong independent thinking and decision making skills.
