We continue to grow year over year and are always in search of the best talent to join our team of consultants.We currently have an opening for a Financial Controller. The Controller will develop and maintain accounting systems and controls necessary to meet local, state and federal guidelines; works with CFO to ensure financial integrity and operational effectiveness of the institution.Assist the CFO in monitoring activities related to budget development and control of expenditures and maintenance of the Chart of Accounts.Supervise the activities of the accounting department including all activities relating to payables, receivables, general ledger maintenance, grants and contracts, and payroll. The bursar and other accounting positions are directly under the Controller?s supervision. As supervisor for Company's accounting functions, the Controller plans, directs, coordinates and reviews the work of the accounting staff. The Controller participates in the selection, training, motivation and evaluation of the accounting staff and works with the staff to correct deficiencies. This includes monitoring all postings to the general ledger.Directly supervises four employees in the Purchasing & General Support Services Department, the Supply Clerk, Coordinator/Mailroom, Coordinator/Copy room, GSS Associate, Receptionist/ Operator, and Secretary/Word Processor. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Effectively supervise staff, build a strong team, lead change and deploy innovative technology and efficiencies by providing strong leadership and management skills.COMPETENCIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to interact with people at several different levels in the university in a professional manner. Must react well under pressure. Prepare accurate and timely periodic financial reports as required for internal use and for other regulatory agencies.2. Leads Company's annual financial audit along with independent CPA firm in accordance with GAAP, and oversees the financial statements and footnotes, supporting schedules and analyses, and provides auditors with all requested documentation. Ensures the annual receipt of an unqualified opinion on the financial statements for presentation to the University?s Board of Trustees.3. Maintain and assure adequate internal controls and checks and balances within the daily financial activities of the accounting department.4. Ensures compliance with a variety of externally-imposed financial recording reporting regulations and specifically oversees the accurate report of all federal and state tax returns and the University?s benefits plans.5. Proficient in complex accounting systems and possess strong understanding of the use and potential of technology in the area of financial management.6. Monitor, review, and ensure compliance with rules and regulations of grants and other special projects.7. Effective leader and people manager with demonstrated ability to mentor subordinates.8. Monitor expenditures and draw down funds as needed.9. Demonstrated ability to build strong collegial relationships across all levels of the organization and lead effective work groups.10. Represent the University at professional organizations, conferences and university-sponsored functions. Ensure an accurate and valid end-of-year closeout and rollover.11. Participate in the planning of goals and objectives within the accounting department12. Ensure adequate and ?student friendly? registration procedures for students during registration periods.13. Review for accuracy the reconciliation of bank statements monthly.14. Review payroll posting for accuracy and reasonableness monthly.15. Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to apply complex accounting and auditing principles and procedures and analyze data to draw sound conclusions. The Controller applies and administers Company's accounting policies and procedures and prepares clear, complete, and concise administrative and financial reports. The Controller must communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Controller reports to the CFO, relative to policy interpretation and unusual problems and questions. In the absence of the CFO, the Controller will perform other duties as designated by the CFO.Minimum of Bachelor?s degree required plus eight years hands-on accounting experience, five years of which are in supervision in accounting office. Preferred requirements include Master?s degree in accounting, Certified Public Accountant, experience in a college setting.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, students, employees and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to solve daily problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
