Supervise daily operations of Microbiology Laboratory and Staff. Works up Microbiology cultures using an array of standard biochemicals plus test systems including Vitek 2 Vitek MS, and GeneXpert. Maintains and writes SOP's and IQCP's. Develops ongoing staff competencies and relevant regulatory standards. Monitors quality indicators and develop process improvements. Participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, and other interdisciplinary teams as required. Performs or delegates tasks including scheduling staff, inventory, and quality control activities. Works with the Medical Director on verification protocols for new testing methods or platforms. Assists staff in acquiring skills for their professional development.


  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or related sciences including a practical training program. Associates degree is acceptable. HHS/HEW must have appropriate years of experience.


    • Need to be certified or registry eligible, by providing documentation of certification within 3 months of hire, in one of the following: ASCP, NCA, AMT. Licensure in a specialty area will be considered.


      • 5 years of Microbiology experience in a high acuity Microbiology laboratory and solid understanding of Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Quality Assurance.
      • Mycology an Asset.
      • Strong Communication skills, teamwork, and adaptability are desired characteristics.
