Senior Municipal Engineer

This is a full-time position to provide civil and process mechanical engineering assistance and project management within the Water and Wastewater Treatment Sub-Practice. Engineer will complete facility plans, preliminary engineering reports, contract documents, construction specifications, final construction drawings, and construction cost estimates for water and wastewater treatment plants and water and wastewater pipelines, pump stations and related facilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • 1. Serve an active role within the Water Practice Area company-wide in business and project development including preparation of proposals, project pursuits and business development activities throughout the Water Practice area.
  • Provide client management activities including active marketing, frequent client communication, and pursuit of clients and projects.
  • Provide project management duties including development of scope, schedule, and costs and execution and management of the same throughout the project.
  • Perform, or assist with, computations for pipeline plan and profile sheets, site general arrangements, equipment selection and layout, detailed piping arrangements, and related project quantity estimates.
  • Perform and coordinate the design of treatment system unit processes, piping systems, pump stations, storage tanks, and other water / wastewater treatment related processing equipment.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals.
  • Prepare and route project related correspondence and record keeping.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to construction sites to monitor quality and progress of the work.
  • Write and edit construction specifications and engineering reports.
  • Tabulate bid items and calculate construction bid quantities from plans and specifications, and estimate construction costs.
  • Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in all work tasks.
  • Other engineering related duties as assigned. Qualifications

    Minimum Baccalaureate degree from an ABET-accredited civil engineering program or the requisite years of progressive engineering experience and educational study, as prescribed by the local jurisdiction, to be eligible to take the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the water resources or civil engineering field is required with an emphasis in water and wastewater treatment preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    Licensure as a Professional Engineer is required.
    Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Demonstrated competency/experience with treatment processes, water and wastewater pumps, valves, piping, and storage systems. Knowledge and familiarity with the following standards: American Water Works Association (AWWA) and Process Industry Practices (PIP). Familiarity with Piping and Instrumentation (P&ID) drawings and process flow sheets. Proficiency with and understanding of the engineering design process sufficient to perform and document design with little guidance. Ability to identify and resolve design conflicts. Sufficient English skills to compose correspondence, prepare engineering reports, develop project contract specifications, proofread documents, and effectively communicate with supervisors, engineers, other technicians, and clients. Excellent speaking and writing communication skills including report writing, project correspondence, technical presentations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

    Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite of products (primarily Word, Outlook, and Excel), Windows Operating System, and several printing output devices. Ability to lead less experienced engineers and technicians and assist with determining appropriate staff workload and project cost estimates. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to inquiries from clients, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to clients, co-workers, and the public.
