A dynamic and growing California Architecture, Urban Design and Planning Firm is looking for a Controller/HR Associate.

The Controller/HR Associate will play a significant role in participating in our rapid growth, deepening and broadening relationships within and with our vendors and other outside partners. In the Controller role, the successful candidate will oversee in conjunction with the COO/CFO all financial and accounting activities. This person will be responsible for project budget management, financial analysis, payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting. The Controller will also be charged with the critical responsibility of monthly client invoicing. We will be migrating away from Quick books as our accounting platform, and the controller will play an extremely important part in the rollout of the new system.

If you're the right person, you'll oversee the day-to-day operations of our accounting process, ensuring that all of the routines, transactions, timelines, and reporting requirements related to payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger are completed in good form and on time. You'll ensure that all financial transactions are captured correctly in the general ledger, coordinate monthly account reconciliations, and compile monthly working papers to support the firms financial statements.

In the HR Associate role, along with the COO, key areas within the human resources department will be administered in conjunction with senior management, including policy and procedure compliance and development and maintenance of HR practices.

The Controller/HR Associate will report directly to the COO/CFO. This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional who thrives in a busy, entrepreneurial environment and is well-versed in working closely with senior management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Manage and process client billing working with our Project Teams to ensure accuracy and collections.
* Manage all aspects of the accounting system
* Generate financial reports as needed for CFO
* Consolidate accounts on a monthly basis

* Process accounts payable and expense reimbursements for the firm and for the firms projects.
* Manage the preparation and processing of payroll for personnel.
* Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures.
* Ability to work closely with senior management within a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment.

* AR/AP:

* Ensure invoices, including credit card statements, are posted or accrued on time
* Ensure expense reports are correctly posted and administered
* Review and manage the payment process
* Review monthly account reconciliations and accruals
* Monthly bank reconciliation
* Coordinate with CFO on month end close, ensuring all deadlines are adhered to
* Ensure quarterly compliance with GAAP, as the basis for the end of year

* Establish procedures for invoices and receivables.
* Communicate financial metrics to the COO/CFO.

* Payroll:

* Ensure timesheets are posted weekly
* Ensure payroll is completed on time
* Review monthly payroll reconciliations and accruals

* Implement personnel onboarding and off-boarding procedures.
* Oversee benefits enrollment and management.


The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Experience with an Architecture, Engineering or Construction company

Experience with Vision (Deltek) or Ajera (Deltek)

Accounting designation or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.

5+ years of accounting and/or financial management experience plus 5+ years of human resources experience.

Excellent computer skills (must have strong MS Office skills)

Intermediate or advanced Excel skills

Proven ability to learn new systems quickly
