OUR TEAM

Do you want to work for a startup but dislike the constant risk of losing funding? Does the stability of a large corporation appeal to your pragmatic side while the lack of flexibility/innovation feels like selling out? If so we have the job for you. Welcome to The Squad, an eight-person startup in a $7B incubator! The Squad is a fully embedded team within Acuity Brand's R&D division with the express purpose of commercializing advanced technology platforms. Every project will be different. Every project will advance the company's strategic plans across multiple brands and business segments (we are talking IoT, AR/VR, digital building control systems with machine learning, Apps, LED based smart lighting and more). To accomplish all of this quickly, The Squad is structured like a start-up while getting full access to Acuity's technical and manufacturing capabilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Mechanical Engineer is the bedrock upon which the Squad is built! Acuity is a vertically integrated company with a rich history of manufacturing. As such your primary function is to take R&D projects and commercialize them. To do this you will need not only a strong electro-mechanical design background but also be able to work across multiple teams to ensure that projects launch on time and with 100% quality. These teams will include: Electrical, Manufacturing, Firmware, and Software Engineers. Outside of the company you will be working with multiple vendors from across the globe and working with our sourcing partners to build a strong supply chain. You will also be involved in the design and launch of high volume production tooling at one of our facilities. Each project will require varying amounts of mechanical design work but all will require excellent communication skills and project management capability. The opportunities to learn new skill sets and grow capabilities is quite high with this role as the team expands.
