Do you want to work for a startup but dislike the constant risk of losing funding? Does the stability of a large corporation appeal to your pragmatic side while the lack of flexibility/innovation feels like selling out? If so we have the job for you. Welcome to The Squad, an eight-person startup in a $7B incubator! The Squad is a fully embedded team within Acuity Brand's R&D division with the express purpose of commercializing advanced technology platforms. Every project will be different. Every project will advance the company's strategic plans across multiple brands and business segments (we are talking IoT, AR/VR, digital building control systems with machine learning, Apps, LED based smart lighting and more). To accomplish all of this quickly, The Squad is structured like a start-up while getting full access to Acuity's technical and manufacturing capabilities.

The Electrical Engineer is vital to the Squad's success. Acuity has a large amount of legacy electrical designs for our drivers, control systems and sensors that are owned by other teams so an ability to work across the company to evaluate existing electrical platforms and integrate new technologies seamlessly into them will be important. Your primary function is to develop new electrical designs that come from R&D while ensuring that other parts of the company buy in to your approach since they will be maintaining them long term. You also may be facilitating a hand off to other teams of electrical engineers in the company to get a design done. Many of these efforts will be focused around power supplies, drivers, controls, sensors, and LED PCBAs. Activities will include concept design events, documentation, prototyping, testing (regulatory, reliability, etc.), production runs, manufacturing reviews and more in a Lean/Agile Product Development environment for new components/systems.
