Job Overview Provide safety and security to all visitors, patients, physicians, and staff as required. Safeguard the assets of the healthcare system and assist to enforce healthcare system policies and procedures. Takes charge of the shift and other officers when required by the supervisor. Covers all posts and duties as required. Provides in-service and training to existing and new security officers. Reviews paperwork for completeness and accuracy. Responsibilities Covers all posts as requested. Reports to his or her post on-time, gives and receives pass-on information about post activities to the relieving officer, and follows post orders as written. Projects an alert, professional, and positive image, at all times while on post. Handles hospital/security equipment with care and takes appropriate precautions to safeguard them. Uses proper logs to document their use as required. Reports any issues in a timely manner to the supervisor using the appropriate paperwork. Assists visitors, patients and/or employees needing direction or campus information. Gathers necessary information and writing a thorough security incident report. Responds appropriately to incidents, gathers all of the facts, investigates the incident at the scene when appropriate, takes necessary action to resolve the issue, and keeps security dispatch and/or supervisor informed of the status of the incident. Incident reports are clear, concise, and free of spelling and grammatical errors. All required documents and paperwork are filled out appropriately. Written documents are neat, complete, accurate, and officer is proficient at entering the data into the computer when required. Takes the initiative to address potential negative situations and tries to resolve them positively. Keeps supervisor informed of status verbally and in writing as necessary. Assists supervisor with shift operation and makes good decisions based on how things work when the supervisor is working. Keeps the supervisor informed of shift business in his absence and when in charge. Enforces hospital rules and regulations in a positive manner. Displays a high level of professionalism, respect, fairness, and courtesy, when dealing with visitors and staff. Uses good judgment and de-escalation skills when handling security situations. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects Qualifications Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and three years of previous work related experience (Military or Police experience preferred). Valid drivers license required, as well as compliance with Qualifications to Drive a System Vehicle as well as all policies as outlined in the SJHS Fleet Management & Safety Program.
