A Premier Midtown Law Firm is seeking a permanent Trusts and Estates Paralegal. The ideal candidate will have three plus years of experience (preferably from Large Law), handling all aspects of estate planning and trust administration. This firm has a robust, sophisticated practice. They are seeking an independent worker that can work within a team environment. The candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. One should be able to demonstrate good client relationship skills, team player, reliable and responsible, mature and can do attitude. Responsibilities: 100% Trust & Estates Paralegal Fully knowledge of probate court and familiar with NY Surrogate Courts. Preparation of probate/administration petitions, including the preparation of affidavits and an understanding of the probate/administration process; marshalling of estate assets including obtaining the date of death valuations needed for estate tax purposes. Create family trees if needed. Assist with the preparation of basic estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, health care proxies, living wills and powers of attorney. Handling all aspects of estate administration including identifying and collecting assets, maintaining estate bank accounts, paying/tracking estate expenditures, distributions to beneficiaries and familiarity with estate and trust accountings and receipt and release agreements. Preparation of receipts and releases, payment of expenses. Filing of miscellaneous estate tax returns including Form 706, Assist fiduciary accountant to prepare fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041). Open & maintain estate accounts. Act as liaison between attorneys, clients, accountants, brokers, financial planners, and appraisers Computer and software skills: Use the following software or have experience with similar software; FPS Accounting and Tax software (OneSource/FastTax), Estate Valuations & Pricing Systems, Inc. (EVP), and HotDocs Requirements: 3 Plus years of experience in Trust & Estates College and/or Paralegal Certificate Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Including writing and organizational skills Strong computer skills. Including: working knowledge of T&E and accounting software Microsoft Suite (word, excel, outlook, power point etc.) Work as a team and independently Organized- excellent attention to detail Notary and second language is a plus Very little over time " however flexibility when needed.
