Department Description

The Department of Public Health Sciences is a large complex teaching, research and clinical department in the UC Davis School of Medicine. The mission of the Department of Public Health Sciences is to improve the health of people using approaches based on epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, and behavioral science through research, educational programs, clinical programs, public services, and policy development.

This is a 100% career position located within the Medical Surveillance Program, a unit of the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) based in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The core activities of the COEH are to educate future leaders in occupational and environmental health develop new knowledge and bring the resources of the university of California to people affected by health hazards in their workplaces or communities.

The Medical Surveillance Program is a complex and unique program within the Department of Public Health Sciences, providing occupational health services such as pre-employment, DMV, Respiratory, Hazardous Materials and POST physical exams and immunizations to meet the health and safety needs of various private companies and government agencies throughout California. The program has 27 government and private contracts, totaling $6 million. Examinations are provided on-site with our mobile medical unit and subcontracted to various occupational health clinics throughout California.

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Records Analyst 2 will provide coordination and serve as a Medical Records and Patient Care Coordinator in the Medical Surveillance Program. The Records Analyst f2 is responsible for assisting clients in maintaining OSHA compliance; makes appropriate referrals based on client needs, and develops and maintains a complete file of clinical resources, referring clients to other medical facilities as required. The position requires a high level of customer service and high degree of speed, accuracy and attention to detail in recording and reporting the client and patient medical results, as reporting medical status impact the individual employee s ability to use a respirator and or to work in hazardous situations. Errors can lead to the loss of revenue and loss of contracts.

Required Qualifications

* Demonstrated experience with records management providing analysis, critical thinking skills and good judgment in troubleshooting and problem solving.

* Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a team, in a high volume, fast paced office. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing situations in a positive manner. Demonstrated ability to withstand stress and retain interpersonal effectiveness.

* Demonstrated skill and ability to perform extremely detail oriented tasks with high degree of speed, accuracy, and efficiency. Demonstrated ability to recognize discrepancies and efficiencies to make appropriate and accurate changes.

* Demonstrated organizational skills to independently determine priorities, delegating diverse tasks with success and demonstrated experience to use sound judgment in prioritizing and organizing extremely heavy workloads in an active and complex work environment with multiple deadlines.

* Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain highly sensitive and confidential records and disclose information

* accurately and legally. Demonstrated skill and ability to draft correspondence, forms, reports, or prepare patient lists, schedules, etc.

* Must have ability and skill to obtain Spirometry and Audiometry certification and to periodically assist at clinical screenings by taking blood pressures, pulse, height/weight, check patients in/out.

* Demonstrated skill and ability to communicate in a professional, pleasant, and effective manner, exercising tact and diplomacy with a wide variety of people including management, the public, clients, co-workers and students.

* Demonstrated competency using standard office equipment. Demonstrated competency using spreadsheet and database applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat Pro/ DC, and EHR.

* Ability to travel to screening sites with possibility of overnight stays, or run errands in support of screenings (own vehicle, mileage reimbursed).


Preferred Qualifications

* Preferred knowledge of medical terminology, specifically understanding laboratory tests and other medical vital statistics and results.

* Preferred knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.

* Preferred knowledge of OSHA and NIOSH regulations.

Special Requirements

* Must be able to work occasional overtime.

* Must be able to travel with mobile clinic to screening sites in the Sacramento region, and work in confined area for a long period of time.

* Must complete training to obtain Audiometry and Spirometry certifications.

* Must complete RV driver training course.

* Must have a valid CA driver s license.

* Must participate in the DMV pull notification.

This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
