Title: Development Director
FLSA Status: Full-time; exempt
Reports To: Executive Director
Job Purpose:
The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing fund development strategies; achieving fundraising goals; engaging donors in ongoing cultivation activities through a multitude of channels; and ensuring that all available opportunities for raising funds for the organization are successfully utilized and maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of fundraising events and initiatives and provide support to the Development Committee
  • Cultivate, nurture and maintain productive relationships with new, current and potential donors
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit donor prospects for annual and major gifts
  • Recommend and implement initiatives to increase donor acquisition and retention
  • Prepare all fundraising materials including solicitation and acknowledgement letters and funding proposals
  • Identify grant opportunities, write compelling proposals, and assist the Executive Director with administration and reporting requirements
  • Expand the donor database
  • Supervise database management activities
  • Create direct mail appeals, including newsletters and annual reports
  • Manage the organization's social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Attend meetings of the Development Committee and prepare appropriate materials


    • Develop an annual fundraising plan and calendar in consultation with the Executive Director and Development Committee which will achieve the goals for sustainable funding, the development of projects and delivery of core operations
    • Identify and develop suitable fundraising opportunities, new projects and funds
    • Accurately monitor fundraising progress and produce quality reports for internal and external parties when required
    • Maintain organized and efficient records of all activities and contacts
    • Coordinate fundraising events, including securing speakers, facilities and materials
    • Recruit and supervise volunteers
    • Attend Development Committee meetings and provide information requested by the Board
    • Prepare activity reports monthly
    • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

      Qualifications:

      • MUST BE PRO-CHOICE
      • Strong commitment to the mission of the Women's Health Center of West Virginia
      • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing or related field
      • At least two years prior fundraising experience
      • Previous design experience strongly preferred
      • Computer proficiency and previous fundraising database experience
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Valid driver's license and ability to travel/attend fundraising events statewide
      • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage multiple ongoing tasks/projects with limited supervision
      • Demonstrated ability to coordinate large projects from conceptualization through implementation and completion including budgeting time, financial and human resources
