Job Description: 3M is seeking a Manufacturing Technologist for the Advance Materials Division (AdMD)/Thermionic Cathodes manufacturing facility located in Lexington, KY. Job Summary : The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Technologist will provide support in development, design manufacturing and customer technical support related to thermionic cathodes and electron guns. This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Technical Contributions . Responsible for performing and guiding technical activities resulting from approved self-initiated or assigned manufacturing programs leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing or new products/technologies having major importance to the business of the division/business/staff organization. Expands the use of extensive knowledge of statistical techniques for monitoring and improving manufacturing processes. Improves upon these skills through regular participation in appropriate activities. - Leadership . Initiates, identifies, recommends, and oversees programs in the manufacturing area of responsibility to improve: 1) product cost, service, and quality, and/or (2) process safety and health/environmental impact. - Intellectual Property . Has an awareness of implications of intellectual property on the process(es). Provide appropriate and timely documentation of work as required by the business unit. - Educating . Identifies and implements a comprehensive education plan to continually advance technical skills and personal development as well as promotes and actively participates in programs to enhance organizational effectiveness. Functions as a technical resource and mentor within immediate work group. Begins establishing self as a technical expert, resource, and mentor throughout the division. - Strategic Planning . Actively participates in and may lead project planning efforts. Suggests changes or future direction as needed. Participates in implementing changes and future direction. - Interaction . Fosters and cultivates an extensive network of support and resources (laboratory, quality, financial, manufacturing, engineering, sales, and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments. Basic Qualifications: - Possess a Bachelors degree or higher in an engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution - Minimum three (3) years of ceramics and refractory metals processing experience in a private, public, government or military environment - Experience in vacuum systems and thermionic emission physics Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in ceramics or materials engineering - Minimum five (5) years of experience in Vacuum Electronics industry related to thermionic emission materials and devices (cathodes, electron gun, electron tubes) in a private, public, government or military environment - Skills include understanding and hands-on experience in design, manufacturing and analysis of ceramics, refractory metals and thermionic emission capable materials and devices - Working knowledge in Autodesk or other 3D design software, FEA software (e.g. Ansys, Comsol), SAP, export control and other Government contract related specifications and regulations - Good prior customer relationships experience Location: Lexington, KY Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international Relocation: Is authorized 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative people.
