Job Title Instructor In Cosmetology Job Summary
THIS IS AN 9 MONTH FACULTY CONTRACT.
Full-time Cosmetology Instructor with theory and clinical teaching duties under the supervision of the Division Chair of Occupational Technology. PM16
--- Prepare and teach courses in Cosmetology. Teach 15 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester. May include day, evening, online, and interactive television courses. Teaching assignment may include courses provided for high school students under the provisions of the dual credit policy of the state of New Mexico. The instructor may teach additional courses, including courses for area high school students as part of the contract or on an overload basis, by agreement with the Division Chair and Executive Vice President.
--- Consult with students during office hours and participate in orientation, registration, committees, councils, in-service, student advisement, and professional development activities. In collaboration with other members of the division, determine course content and curricula.
--- Fulfill all functions of a faculty member, including those related to teaching, faculty service, assessment of student academic achievement, and professional development.
--- Participate in college-wide studies and projects, providing information as requested.
--- Demonstrate or actively work to attain proficiency with such technologies as may be useful in instruction, including personal computers, presentation software, computer-generated tutorials, and learning management systems.
--- Teach the skills, routines, health and safety aspects, ethics and advisable business practices germane to preparation for certification as a licensed cosmetologist in the State of New Mexico.
--- Provide curricular expertise for the program in the area of professional specialization, assist the Division Chair and work with other instructors in the program.
--- Following NM Board requirements determine learning objectives and assess student attainment of objectives.
--- The assignment involves didactic instruction as well as management and supervision of laboratory activities.
--- Serve as program contact with manufacturers and industry educators including arranging for continuing education opportunities on campus and in surrounding communities.
--- Assist with organizing and running advisory committee meetings.
--- Responsible for travel arrangements for staff to attend out-of-town meetings.
--- Order and maintain inventory of class supplies and student kits.
--- Teach on a nine month contract, Monday - Thursday. Departmental meetings currently scheduled on Fridays are required.
--- Instructor training will be a requirement prior to the start of Spring 2020. Position requires frequent to continuous movement within the College, standing, walking, sitting and handling of small objects such as paper and books. Occasional reaching above the shoulders and lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Exposure to chemicals consistent with cosmetology clinic.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Must be a licensed cosmetologist, a Cosmetologist Instructor licensed by the State of New Mexico, or teach on a Provisional license for not more than one year. A high school diploma or GED is required. Minimum three years full-time practice as a licensed cosmetologist is preferred. Previous teaching experience helpful.
