IRRIGATION SPECIALIST JOB SUMMARY To design, install, audit, maintain, modify and repair grounds irrigation systems. Provide exceptional customer service to the Point Loma Nazarene University community. RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure exceptional Customer Service to the Campus Community Design and install irrigation systems, including selecting types of equipment and procuring cost estimates. Audit landscaped areas for proper irrigation considering vegetation, soil conditions, evaporation and water retention factors. Repair broken sprinkler heads, valves, and related equipment, including clearing valve and pipe blockage. Service, maintain, inspect and repair automatic sprinkler control devices. Implement sprinkler system preventive maintenance program. Maintain and service backflow devices as needed. Work closely with contractors installing new irrigation systems to ensure proper system capability. Maintain up-to-date plans of pipe location, including valves, sprinkler heads, and water pressures. Monitor web-based irrigation control system, producing reports and following up on any anomalies. Order and maintain irrigation systems supply stock. Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS High School degree or equivalent with one year experience in irrigation installation and repair preferred. Irrigation certification desirable. Must have a valid California driver's license. Five years of experience preferred. Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University. Ability to read and follow blueprints. Knowledge of irrigation systems and installation procedures; electrical controls and codes; and OSHA standards. Ability to use irrigation software and computer devices. Ability to plan, estimate costs, and install or modify irrigation systems. Knowledge of the safe use of manual and power equipment involved in installation and repair of irrigation systems, preferred. Ability to exercise critical interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with faculty, staff, students and external contacts. Ability to perform duties and responsibilities that normally require special physical effort, including bending, crawling, stretching, and lifting heavy objects typically under 50 pounds. Must not have allergies that interfere with working outdoors (such as fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, plant life, pollens, etc.). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to be physically active for extended periods of time. Must climb ladders up to 8 feet. Use of power and hand tools. Use of computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse to read and respond to email. Ability to perform duties and responsibilities that normally require special physical effort, including bending, crawling, stretching and lifting heavy objects typically 50 pounds. The work can be extensive physical labor and may require sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also climb, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs throughout the day.
