AREA SUPERVISOR MELTING This position provides overall melting and casting knowledge, direction and leadership to the melting, refining and casting operations, to constantly make improvements in safety, quality and efficient productivity. This is rotating shift work supervising one crew. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Safety/Environmental: Achieve Melt Shop (melt and cast combined) TRI rate of 8.4. Achieve Melt Shop (melt and cast combined) LTI rate of 2.4. Conduct meaningful daily safety observations. Attend monthly safety/environmental meetings. Conduct weekly safety/environmental meetings with crew. Conduct incident investigations timely (same shift). Enforce company safety/environmental programs, including cardinal rules. Assure shift inspections are being completed for all mobile equipment, and assist in getting any deficiencies corrected. Goal for government Notice of Violation = 0. Attend radioactive safety training and assure best practices are being followed. Human Resources Conduct reviews for probationary employees at 30, 60, and 90 day intervals. Utilize professional, legal and ethical conduct when interacting with all employees and vendors. Abide by the labor contract. Accurately complete daily manpower reports. Counsel employees as needed where deficiencies in performance exist. Quality: Achieve goal of campaign quality rating of 90%. Achieve goal of melt shop scrap rate 5.2. Achieve caster yield > 98.5%. Attain 4 strand casting rate of > 90%. Provide direction and priorities for maintenance work which is needed during the shift; that which cannot be completed added to a list for the down turn. Support continuous operations by communicating effectively at shift change, as well as during the shift with other departments, such as the Steel Yard. Be proactive and open with ideas for improving operations, quality and safety performance. INCUMBENT ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE This position supervises 26 hourly employees as follows: EAF crew (3), LRS Crew (2), Ladlemen (2), stockbay crane (2), stocker (1), Hot metal cranemen (2), casting operators (4), asst. casting op. (1), torch op. (2), shipper (2), etcher (1), tundish repairer (2), material handler (1), utility (1). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required High school diploma or GED. 2 yrs. experience in EAF or continuous casting operations, including refractories. Interpersonal, leadership and participative management skills. Planning and organizing skills. Results oriented for safety, quality and productivity. Desirable Experience in EAF, ladle refining, and casting operations. Directing bargaining unit employees.
